Is there a nasty smell coming from your carpet?

Nasty smell coming from your floor?
Now that this wet and rainy weather is upon us, we’re going to be trekking in an unwanted smell in, whether that’s on shoes, clothes or even mucky paws. And after a while it’s only natural that the carpet is going to start to imitate what’s on it.

We have years of experience within the flooring and carpet industry as we’re one of the UK’s larget carpet showroom St Helens. That’s why we have been able to come up with few hints and tips to help freshen up your carpets.

The first thing to do is try and figure out which area seems to have the most smell coming from it. You then need to try and air it out as much as possible. An easy way to do that is through the use of a dehumidifier. Don’t just throw the water away, you can use it to water plants etc.

Removing the Smell

If you’re looking to deodoriser a larger area of carpet, don’t bother with expensive carpet cleaning solutions. All you need is something as simple as baking soda and essential oils. For every cup of baking soda you use, you can add 5-10 drops of essential oils. If you do have pets, make sure you use pet friendly oils as some of them aren’t. Then sprinkle a thin layer over your carpet, let it sink in for 15/20 mins and then hoover off. It’s as simple as that!

Vinegar is also another natural ingredient that is amazing at removing stains and odurs in carpets. Use one tablespoon for every two cups of water. Give that a mix and empty into a spray bottle to use where ever you wish. Make sure you try it on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won’t effect the material. Once sprayed, let the carpet dry slightly then hoover up.

If it gets to the point where you’ve cleaned it over and over again and it isn’t helping, then it may be time to replace. If you are looking to replace any of your carpets or flooring, why not come down to our carpet showroom St Helens.
