Where to start when looking to buy new carpets?

So we’ve all been spending more time than ever at home, and it’s no surprise that you might be getting a little bit stir crazy or bored of your surroundings. And since everyone’s been at home more, there’s no denying that your flooring has taken a little bit of a battering. So if you’re looking to update your current flooring, where do you start? Well that’s where we can help. Here at Welch Mill Carpets, we are your one stop shop for all things carpets and flooring across Leigh, Bolton, Warrington, Wigan and St Helens.

Buying a new carpet?

The very first place to start is working out a budget. We think that this should be the very first thing that you do with any home improvements. Once you have your budget, you know what price point you can start looking at.

With carpets there are a few things you need to think about in your budget. Of course the carpet, but you need to factor in the underlay, any fitting costs and any removals or skip fees that you might pay to get rid of your old carpets or flooring.

So once you’ve got your budget, you probably already know what colour carpet you want. The next step would be to start looking at samples. These samples are key in helping you decide what sort of carpet you want. If you want something with a thicker pile, something that is stain resistant or something with a pattern.

You’ve chosen your carpet, now it’s time to choose your underlay.

Underlay is important as it can really effect the underfoot feel of your carpet as well as how long it lasts. Not to mention the underlay can also help with heat retention and noise reduction. Different underlay is suitable for different reasons, so we would always suggest asking for advice when it comes to choosing the right one for you.
